The Ukraine War Provides More Proof that U.S. Rulers Wage Wars to Be AT War, Not Mainly to Win the War
It turns out that Ukraine military intelligence told Biden Ukraine could not win the war back in April of 2024; Biden essentially said "So what?"
If you go to time point 34, or if you’re in a hurry skip to time point 49, you will hear Alexander Mercouris describe how the Biden administration a) learned from the director of Ukrainian military intelligence in April of 2024 that Ukraine was losing the war and could not win it, and b) decided to keep the war going anyway.
What this illustrates is a long historical pattern of the U.S. ruling class, which is that it wants the U.S. to be at war, whether winning the war is possible or not. Being at war is the goal; defeating the enemy is a very secondary aim. U.S. civilian leaders understand this, whereas often the military brass does not; this is why there is sometimes disagreement between the two. (Alexander Mercouris, like virtually all of the other YouTube pundits, doesn’t understand (or want to say) this, as I posted about here.)
I discuss this pattern of wanting to be at war rather than aiming to win the war in great detail in my article, “Oppressors Need Bogeyman Enemies and Invent them When Necessary. Which explains the actual, versus apparent, aims of U.S. imperialism.” I discuss there how defeating the fascists in World War II was an entirely secondary goal, for which reason FDR did not fight it in the obviously most sensible manner—to the dismay of the military brass. I discuss there how the U.S. waged the Vietnam war despite knowing it was not going to win it. I discuss there how, and why, the U.S. even armed the Soviet Union during the Cold War (including during the Vietnam War!) I also discuss there (search for the word “Disney” in the text to see where) that it is not only the military-industrial complex that wants war but virtually ALL U.S. corporate leaders, even of such as the Disney corporation.
One can also see that the U.S. rulers fought in Afghanistan for decades without a serious hope of winning that war. The Ukraine war is a continuation of this long pattern. U.S. rulers need Americans to feel that we are at war with somebody because this is how the ruling billionaire plutocracy controls us and justifies its diversion of wealth from what most people want to what the very rich want.
“The Top 1% of Americans Have Taken $50 Trillion From the Bottom 90%” over the last few decades. This would not have been possible if we had been at peace and if we had been expecting and demanding that once-promised ‘peace dividend’ that we hoped would improve our lives when the Cold War ended. Our rulers would not have been able to justify themselves and their stolen wealth and their power and privilege in the name of ‘national security’ if they had allowed peace to break out. They needed a bogeyman enemy to replace the Communism enemy, and so they created it with Islamic Fundamentalism. Then they expanded NATO to provoke Russia (as I wrote about here.) And already they’re sabre-rattling against China.
The only alternative to constant, impoverishing and (for many poor souls) deadly warmongering is an egalitarian revolution to remove the warmongers from power.
A note unrelated to this post - Not sure if you saw this but one pundit did a post where he mentions you and egalitarianism. He was apparently exposed to your perspective after your post on 'real left' (he himself often posts on 'real left') https://plagueonbothhouses.substack.com/p/the-idiots-guide-to-a-class-analysis
John, I opened the link to the Time magazine article and it said this, "A staggering $50 trillion. That is how much the upward redistribution of income has cost American workers over the past several decades."
I remember the day before 9/11 Donald Rumsfeld, as Defense Secretary , reported that some multi-billions could not be accounted for from the Defense budget, presumably going into the deep state black hole of corruption and omniwar against the people and other nations.
But $50 trillion is a staggering sum and this issue alone should give the majority of people reason to ditch the rich. I am an egalitarian so we can get justice for actual state crimes like JFK and the other 60's assassinations, and for 9/11 and for the Federal Covid program, a Department of Defense deep state operation against the people. And, I am egalitarian so we can be free from plutocracy, but my indignation at the state crimes really drives me in my activism.
What is it going to take to make clear that we the people are dirt to the plutocracy? $50 trillion over a couple of generations seems like reason enough. Why didn't Jill Stein from the Green Party make a bigger deal with this?
