Read Here Why the Marxist, Richard Wolff, Doesn't Even Mention Class--the KEY FACT--When Talking About Israel/Palestine
Only by talking about the class nature of this conflict can we win the support of the vast majority of people--including ordinary Jews--to oppose Zionism
Notice what the Marxist Richard Wolff never mentions here?
Wolff never mentions the KEY FACT: the fundamental CLASS nature of the so-called “Israel/Palestine” conflict. NEVER!
If you don’t understand the class nature of this conflict, then please read my articles, linked to in the following paragraph, that explain it and prove it:
The KEY FACT:
Israeli violence against Palestinians is for the purpose of OPPRESSING ORDINARY ISRAELI JEWS. Zionist violence is designed to make the Palestinians a bogeyman enemy that the billionaire rulers of Israel pretend to protect Israeli Jews from and thereby control and severely economically oppress and get rich off of the Israeli Jewish working class. Israel for decades has funded Hamas and worked to keep it in power to make the bogeyman enemy maximally frightening. Hamas is also controlled by billionaires and oppresses ordinary Palestinians in Gaza as shown here . Hamas got votes not because Palestinians want an Islamic theocracy but because Hamas was less corrupt than the alternative Palestine Authority and pretended to be fighting Zionism militantly. This is all proved in my key articles here and here and here and here. Read them if you don’t understand what the real purpose of Zionist violence is!
Why does Wolff—an outspoken Marxist who almost always talks about class—avoid even hinting about class when speaking about the “Israel/Palestine” conflict?
Curiously, the answer to this question is because Wolff is a Marxist. No Marxists talk about how the Israeli billionaire ruling class uses violence against Palestinians to make a bogeyman enemy with which to control and get rich off of the Israeli Jewish working class. Why don’t Marxists talk about this?
Marxists don’t talk about this because they don’t believe it is true. They don’t believe it is true because they don’t believe that the billionaire rulers of Israel have any need to do anything—certainly not use extreme violence against Palestinians—just to control the Israeli Jewish working class. Marxists don’t believe this because they wrongly believe the Israeli Jewish working class does not have values and aims that oppose the values and aims of the Israeli ruling class. Marxists don’t believe that if left uncontrolled, Israeli Jewish working class people would seriously try to remove the Israel billionaire class from power. Marxists believe, on the contrary, that the Israeli Jewish working class—like working class people in general—is easily brainwashed by capitalism and by the ruling class’s hegemonic ideology, and therefore doesn’t pose any threat to the capitalist rulers unless they are led by Marxists (Communists.)
This is why Wolff does not mention the overwhelmingly obvious fact (well, not obvious if you rely on the mass media for your understanding of the world, but obvious if you think about the facts that my above-linked articles cite from mainstream sources) that the Zionist ethnic cleansing project has been for decades all about (as far as the real rulers of Israel are concerned) making sure that Israeli Jews would be so frightened by the Palestinian bogeyman enemy (that Israeli rulers pretend to be protecting them from) that they would tolerate and not seriously try to challenge that Israeli billionaire ruling class that severely economically oppresses them.
The pro-Palestine students that Wolff (properly) praises would have FAR GREATER support if they explained the CLASS nature of the conflict about which Wolff keeps silent.
The pro-Palestine students accept the mass-media’s false non-class framework that says the conflict is between the Palestinians versus the Jews (a.k.a. between Hamas and Israel, etc.) Based on this false framework, many—MANY!—good people who know about the Holocaust and are rightfully horrified by it and who believe the (virtually never refuted) lie that Israeli violence against Palestinians is for the noble purpose of making Israeli Jews safe, are determined never to take the side that is opposed to what they believe Jews must do to be safe. They will thus oppose the pro-Palestine students.
But if the pro-Palestine students explained to the public that they were on the side of ordinary Palestinians (who are oppressed by the billionaires who control Hamas and are funded and kept in power by Israel) AND ALSO on the side of ordinary Israeli Jews (who are oppressed by the Israeli billionaire ruling class) then obviously they would gain the support of the VAST majority of the general public INCLUDING those who, before learning the truth, were passionate supporters of Israel (as I know from personal experience that I describe here.)
It is the failure of Marxists like Wolff to tell the CLASS truth, as well as the censorship of the class truth by the mass media, that is responsible for the pro-Palestine movement in the United States not having sufficient public support to force the U.S. government to stop supporting Israel the way the movement against apartheid in South Africa DID gain that great public support and DID force the U.S. government to stop supporting apartheid South Africa.
Additionally Big $ works very hard to make sure that even the anti-Zionism organizations censor the class truth as I discuss here and here and here.
But wait! Don’t Marxists always talk about class? What’s going on here?
Yes, it may at first seem paradoxical that Wolff—a devout Marxist—would not talk about class in the context of Israel/Palestine. Here’s what’s going on.
Marxists understand class conflict purely and only as a conflict of interest between the working class and the capitalist class (e.g., workers want higher wages, capitalists want lower wages, etc.) Marxists absolutely do not view class conflict as a conflict between the moral values that most working class people want society to be shaped by (such as equality and mutual aid and fairness) versus the contrary moral values that capitalists want it shaped by (such as inequality and greed and domination and exploitation of the many by the few.) Regarding moral values, Marxists say that workers who want higher wages have the same moral value as capitalists who want lower wages: self interest in both cases. Read here to learn about this key wrong and elitist aspect of Marxism.
Furthermore, according to Marxists, working class people lack “class consciousness,” which means they don’t understand that their interests fundamentally conflict with the interests of the capitalists; they have only what Lenin called “trade union consciousness”1 : they just want more stuff. Workers may want higher wages than what the capitalists want to pay, but there is (say the Marxists) no sense among workers that a fundamentally different kind of society is needed. As a result of this wrongfully narrow understanding of what class conflict is about (i.e., that it is about conflicting interests only, not about conflicting moral values), Marxists believe that only when working class people are led by “class conscious” (Marxist, Communist) leaders do they pose any threat to the capitalist class.
Richard Wolff talks about class only to say that workers and capitalists have conflicting interests that today’s non-class-conscious workers don’t even fully subjectively (consciously) understand. He does not talk about working class people as having—today!—anti-capitalist moral values (not just interests) that lead them (if they are not somehow controlled by, for example, their rulers using a Palestinian bogeyman enemy) to try to shape society the way the capitalists don’t want it shaped, in a way that would remove the capitalists from power.
According to the very Marxist Richard Wolff, Israeli working class people do not need to be controlled with a bogeyman enemy because they don’t have Marxist (Communist) leaders. Hence Richard Wolff agrees with the mainstream media that Israeli violence against Palestinians has nothing whatsoever to do with controlling the Israeli Jewish working class; it is simply violence by the Jews against the Palestinians carried out to make Jews safe, with tragic immense suffering by Palestinians the consequence.
Again, this Marxist view is simply factually wrong, as my above-linked article (such as this one) prove.
Karl Marx did not invent the wrong (elitist) view of ordinary people only “thinking with their belly” and having no moral values different and superior to those of the ruling class.
Marx merely agreed with the same elitist view of ordinary people that almost all intellectuals both then and now hold. The ruling class has learned how to use this elitist view (whether it is couched as Marxism or not) to prevent good people from winning their struggle against the oppressors. We need to understand that this elitist view is false, and dangerous, if we aim to win.

'Marxism, being a scientific theory, could not be a spontaneous product of the working class [according to Lenin], but had to be imported from outside, by intellectuals equipped with scientific knowledge, became the peculiar ideological instrument to justify a new idea of the party of manipulators. Since the working class is in principle incapable of articulating theoretically its consciousness, it is possible and even necessary that the "genuine" theoretical consciousness of the working class should be incarnated in a political organism that could consider itself the carrier of this consciousness regardless of what the "empirical" working class thought about it, given that the "empirical" consciousness of this class is irrelevant in defining who in a given moment represents its interest. This is why the theory of class consciousness instilled from outside and the whole idea of scientific socialism so conceived served to justify the fact that in all kinds of political activity and later in the exercise of political power, the working class may be and must be replaced by the political apparatus which is the vehicle of its consciousness at the highest level. The whole Leninist and then Stalinist principle of dictatorship which the proletariat exercises through the intermediary of its self-appointed representatives, is only a development of the idea of "scientific socialism" so conceived.'
