My Egalitarian Take on What Flags Should Be Permitted to Fly Over the City of Revere's City Hall
Also included here: How to register for the Sunday, Oct. 6 Zoom Green Liberty PAC National Convention 2024 at which I will be a speaker; please join us!
Let’s talk about free speech from an egalitarian point view, since the people of Revere, Massachusetts are talking about free speech now.
If you read this article you will see that the public debate in Revere is about what their policy should be regarding what flags are permitted to fly over the City Hall.
One side says only American, state, city and military flags should be permitted. The other side says “If we can’t hang all flags, we shouldn’t hang any flags.”
What’s my egalitarian take on this question?
I say, first, that the decision should be made democratically by the local assembly of egalitarians, which I described as follows in my recent post titled, “Who Decides If this Prison Gets Built?Genuine Democracy Versus Fake Democracy: the Difference is Who Decides the Important Questions.”
In an egalitarian society a question such as, for example, whether to build a women’s prison like this one slated to be built by HDR, Inc., would be decided by the local assembly of egalitarians in the local community where the prison might be built.1 The people with a right to participate as equals in that local assembly are (to switch optimistically to the present tense) all the adults, and ONLY the adults, who live or work in that local community who share the egalitarian values of no-rich-and-no-poor equality and mutual aid and truth and fairness and justice—i.e., the vast majority of people in most places. Furthermore, there is no other governmental or any other body that can make laws or policies contrary to those of the local assembly that people in the local community are obliged to obey.
If I were present at this local assembly of egalitarians when the flag question was being discussed, I would say this:
“Let’s allow any flag except those the flying of which would help enemies of egalitarian values organize and gain power to unjustly oppress people.”
My view stems from my understanding of the fact that we are presently in the midst of a class war over whether there will or will not be unjust oppression, over whether the haves will be able or not be able to treat the have-nots like dirt. Speech (including flags) is thus sometimes a weapon in the class war on one side or the other. There is no good reason to permit speech that is used as a weapon by those who want to keep unjust oppression. In a war, one does not willingly allow the enemy to do ANYTHING that helps it to win, right? I discuss this much further in my article, “The ‘Right to Free Speech’ Is a Bogus Concept.”
Read here how YOU can help build the egalitarian revolutionary movement to end unjust oppression and prevent those who want such oppression from doing anything to get it.
Green Liberty PAC National Convention 2024
The Green Liberty PAC will bring together truth leaders from across the country for our first national convention on Sunday October 6, 2024 at which we will confront the political, economic, social, and cultural malaise that has wrapped its claws around the nation and formulate together an honest and practical strategy for restoring accountability, transparency, and ethics in governance.
In contrast to the corporate-funded Republican National Convention in July, and Democratic National Convention in August, the Green Liberty PAC Convention will make it clear that our legitimacy derives not from how many billions of dollars in ill-got wealth we pull in, nor from how much mainstream media coverage our carnival attracts. No! We will affirm the basic rights of all citizens, propose a roadmap for creating an egalitarian society, demand the truth about state crimes, and insist on due process regarding all crimes so that no citizen will be above the law.
This convention will be the start of a fundamental transformation of American political culture and the realization of the full potential hidden within our constitutional republic. We will create a nation that guarantees equal rights to citizens and that assures meaningful participatory democracy. In other words, we will make America great for the first time.
Our convention is about our citizens, including—no! especially those who are homeless, victims of the weaponized Supreme Court rulings. All poor and homeless are welcome to attend the Green Liberty PAC Convention!
We welcome those who have been crippled by poisonous vaccines and the other fake medicines peddled by corporations; we welcome those who are not allowed to reach their human potential because they are deprived of education, or driven into debt.
Corporate representatives, lobbyists, and financial PR consultants, however, are not welcome to this convention.
